Landmark Medical Center Lays Off 31 People

Employees let go will get one week’s severance pay and three months of benefits.

Thirty-one employees of Landmark Medical Center and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island were laid off Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Affected employees included members of management, administrative and patient care staffs.

Landmark has been in a special form of receivership, Special Mastership, since 2008. Special Mastership differs from general receivership in that the mission of the person appointed to run the business is to safeguard the public interest rather than that of creditors. Superior Court has appointed Jonathan Savage as Landmark's Special Master.

“Throughout the Mastership process, we have sought to implement efficiencies to keep Landmark Medical Center a viable operation and this decision is a continuation of that goal,” said Bill Fischer, spokesperson for Landmark Medical Center. “That said, a decision like this is never easy, but it is necessary to do what we can to protect the viability of the hospital in the long term. This implementation will not affect patient care.”

The workforce reduction, implemented by Savage, was contemplated well before the Court’s approval of a Management Advisory Agreement with Prime Healthcare Services, Fischer said.

Prime Healthcare made its bid to buy Landmark in September after it became clear Steward Healthcare was backing out of its deal to purchase the hospital.

All 31 employees will receive a week’s severance pay and three months of benefits.

These layoffs are going to jeopardize the safety and quality of care Landmark's patients receive. Who ever decided on these cuts clearly does not deal with the patients directly.

It will affect the care because there will be less employees. Also there was bumping others out of their positions that was great workers to give to employees that really dont want the unit but just to have a job it is a sin to get rid of caring great workers and to keep some that just dont care. Nevermind whos there longer go by how someone works..

The quality and reputation in already in the toilet. Now with these lay offs I'm sure the patients will suffer more now than before. X Watch the death toll rise when folks go to Landmark. I've heard Landmark referred to as Landfill. Thought that maybe with someone else taken it over they could build up the hospital and the quality of care. So sad that they think laying off 31 people all help.

So sad what landmark has become,Laying off all the people is jeopardizing the care for the patience. It has made lots of hard feelings, hurt feelings. People bumping each other for their jobs just to keep their own.Sad so sad what happened to the union to protect us.If this keeps up then they deserve the name landfill, cause no one will feel proud working for landmark.
