If you see Woonsocket firefighters wearing pink next week, don't be alarmed, it's not the crew's new permanent uniform. During the week of Oct. 23, the department is taking part in the "Cares Enough to Wear Pink Campaign" along with on duty firefighters across the state to show support for women with cancer.

Last year, the RI State Association of Fire Fighters and the RI Chiefs Association adopted the “Cares Enough to Wear Pink” campaign. This year, Woonsocket firefighters will wear their pink shirts from Sunday, Oct. 23 through Saturday, Oct. 29 in support of the Pink Heals campaign.

IIA puts Patch in Top Ten for Online Savings

The Internet Innovation Alliance lists Rhode Island Patch sites as one of the top 10 Ways Broadband Saves You Money.

According to a press release from the group, Rhode Island’s consumers can save nearly $8,000 a year by having access to and using high-speed broadband Internet, through price comparison, access to deeper markets and the power of group-buying.

"Rhode Island editions of Patch.com are leading the charge: these local news sites host residents’ classified ads, an online marketplace for goods and services, as well as a job listing and seeking mechanism that is bound to help frustrated job seekers tired of sifting through pages and pages of newspapers. According to the IIA study, Patch.com and other consumer savings sites are helping Rhode Islanders save money in difficult economic times," the release states.
