Capture Spirit of Woonsocket for Facebook Page
Have a great photo, painting or drawing that you think will be a perfect cover photo for our Facebook page? Upload it now!
Many are up in arms over the social media schism that is the Facebook timeline. Whether you like it or hate it, Facebook's changing over to this new layout ... including Woonsocket Patch's page, starting March 30.
Instead of throwing a tantrum and starting a Facebook page to petition this, we've decided to use one of timeline's features to highlight Woonsocket's artistic talent.
How, you ask? From now until March 29, we'll be accepting submissions for a cover photo for us to use on Woonsocket Patch's Facebook page.
Whether its a photo of an historic mill building, ducks floating on the Blackstone, oer people just going about their day, we want to see your take on Woonsocket. Be creative and try to capture the essence of the city to represent Woonsocket on Facebook.
There's no age requirement to submit: You just have to be a Woonsocket Patch user and be able to create a 100 percent original piece of work owned by you for us to use. You agree to grant Patch the royalty free, irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive right and license to use the work on Woonsocket Patch’s Facebook page. You must have permission to show all individuals seen in the work. If minor children are included in the work, you must be their parent or guardian, or obtain written consent from their parent or guardian prior to submitting the work. All entries must be at least 399 pixels wide and cannot contain any advertising (such as a prominent Coca Cola logo).
We'll close acceptance for entries on March 29. The winner will be determined by the editor – but comments left below may help us in our decision, so argue for your choice.
Click the "upload" button above to submit your entry right now!

Awesome shots, Pierre! Love the waterfall and Main Street!
Can anyone compete? Upload your best pics of Woonsocket and help us decide which should be our cover photo on the new Woonsocket Patch page. What's your favorite so far?

It certainly seems like anyone can compete if I could upload my own personal pictures. I've taken tons of photos around Woonsocket, but purely to record Woonsocket's architectural history for my own personal projects.
Personally, I really like the photo of the houses and storefronts along Blackstone Street because that is Woonsocket to me, as much as the mills, "Bienvenue" signs and waterfall pictures. I thought of uploading some pix of the French Worsted mills I tooks a few years back but that seemed too obscure.
Still, this is a great opportunity to put a nice face on Woonsocket. I now live in New York but visit Woonsocket regularly and despite its problems, it's still "home" to me and I'm terribly fond of the city!

Alright...I went and uploaded some French Worsted Mill photos that I really like as well, including a digital painting that was done from one of the photos. I thought some additional photos of Main Street would be nice too!

Sorry to cast gloom on this brilliant project. But the most commented scene from the Woon by passerbys is this:

I understand the relevance of this picture, but boy does it do a number on morale and community image. Is there a way to tactfully remove this eyesore? I kinda don't want Woonsocket to be known for its murder victims.

It's really a brutal time of year to be trying to get good photos of the City - no leaves on the trees, tough lighting, sand on the streets, etc. Maybe Patch should do this on a rolling (bi-monthly?) basis to create opportunities for new photos.

Great idea, jde. Perhaps we will make it a monthly contest to help keep the Facebook page fresh. Thanks!

I think that's a great idea too!
