Candidates Challenge Woonsocket State Legislators

Cote, Brien, Baldelli-Hunt face primary contests Sept. 11.

There's a lot of competition for Woonsocket's Democrats in the Sept. 11 statewide primary, so make sure you're registered by the Aug. 12 deadline to have a say in who'll face who in the Nov. 6 election.

In Rhode Island, if you're an unaffiliated voter, you can vote in either the Republican or Democratic primary, said Rob Rock at the RI Secretary of State's office. Once you vote in a particular primary, you're automatically registered as a member of that party. However, Rock said, on your way out of the polling place, you can ask a poll worker to dis-affiliate you, returning you to independent voting status.

Rock said that although Aug. 12 is a Sunday, the Woonsocket Board of Canvassers office at will be open from 1-4 p.m. for any last-minute registering voters may need to accomplish. The Secretary of State's office at 148 West River St. in Providence will also be open that Sunday, Rock said.
