Bellevue Cadillac Returns To Chan's

Doug Bell brings unique blend of gospel, jazz, soul, swing and good old-fashioned rock and roll back to intimate city venue.

Bellevue Cadillac, celebrating their 19th year playing various stages around the world, will be back at Chan's on May 20, 2011 with a few surprises tucked up their sleeves according to Doug Bell, founder of the band, for their strong core following always present for their Chan's shows.

Bell who started this band back in 1991, with an original line up of tunes, has certainly come a long way since picking up guitar at age eleven and joining his first band, The Merits, in 1966 and a series of other bands throughout the 1970's, where he was a songwriter first and lead guitarist second.

There's no question that the pre rock & roll of the late 1940's marked by complicated arrangements, has been an inspiration for Bell's music. His songs have been on 22 CD's; 18 television shows including The Sopranos, Brotherhood, Touched by an Angel, Crossing Jordan, Las Vegas and Sex and the City; films such as Shallow Hal, Me Myself and Irene, Delta Rising; kareoke and Broadway Shows. His music has also been covered by other artists.

These days, Bellevue Cadillac is often called a 'dieselpunk band' or at least is considered to be traveling on parallel pathways. Why? Dieselpunk is a sub culture and genre of art blending the aesthetics of the 1920's through the early 1950's with today, with the goal of creating something unexpected and new by merging the zeitgeist of the past with today's technology and attitude, says Bell.

Bell has been very busy recently. He's got a blog about to go live with video, audio and back stories and he's working on his first solo CD project, laying down tracks with Dave "Homeboy" Edwards and Brad Whitford of Aerosmith. He's even asked Jeff' Skunk' Baxter, Jonathan Edwards, Bryan Bassett (Foghat) J. Geil's, Clarence Clemmons to play on a track of their choice. You may have to stand in line for this CD.

Bell was driving around Palm Beach with his top down when he spoke to Patch. He just finished up an American Cancer Society Annual dinner, where Donald Trump was the honorary chair, and Bell, with celebrity Chef Johnny Ciao, raised $22,500 for a fantatsic night of food and music.

His latest accolade was winning the Grand Award in New England for Best Video Production "Doug Bell, an Artist and His Music" by Jack Celli.

Bellevue Cadillac is one of the leading bands of the retro swing movement. Previously nominated for seven Grammy's, the band has also been nominated for the upcoming Grammy's.

With this level of talent, Bellevue Cadillac will likely be around for many years to come.

Catch Bellevue Cadillac at Chan's Friday, May 20 for two performances at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
