A Guide To Main Street Parking

Wojcik: Places to stow your car not as scarce as some may think.

"I would never open a business on Main Street," remarked Councilman Roger Jalette during the Dec. 3 City Council meeting, saying there isn't enough parking on the street.

While there is a municipal lot across from City Hall and another lot across from the Woonsocket Call building and on-street parking, "People would be surprised at the total amount of parking available to service Main Street," said Economic Development Director Matt Wojcik this week.

Wojcik said the city should be doing a better job of directing traffic to those parking places, though. The common parking signs, featuring a white capital "P" on a blue background, aren't used by the city to mark parking areas, he said.

Also, Wojcik said the city hasn't generated the foot traffic or demand on Main Street yet to make a parking garage on Main Street a viable business.

But there is parking for Main Street if you need it, Wojcik said. You just need to know where to look. He was kind enough to point out the various parking areas available along Main Street. Check out the accompanying video to get a look at the areas available for Main Street patron parking.

There might be available parking on Main St,however if City Hall workers did not take all of the parking spots in the two lots accross from City Hall maybe this might free up spots for people going to City Hall to pay TAXES>

There is a very big lot on fountain street that can be renovated for atleast 100 parking spaces also on high street. The city can purchase a shuttle bus to transfer city workers to city hall and back to their cars when they leave work it can eliminate alot of traffic on main street. Also the city trucks that park in the street just to be closer in front and around city hall can be avoided as well. They spend most of their time standing around watching each other do a little of their jobs, Its like they take shifts while working. The money they get and benefits should be earned not taken advantage of. Between the police dept and city workers I dont know who is worse. The way the economy is there should be something like the police have, internal affairs to ween out lazy city workers. And there are many of them.
